Permabond has launched two new exciting cyanoacrylate adhesives, Permabond 712 and Permabond 130UV, complementing its already broad portfolio of CA adhesives. Both adhesives have some unique properties, 712 being water resistant and 130UV having a dual cure mechanism (moisture + UV), they both also passed stringent 85/85 automotive ageing testing (85°C/85% relative humidity).
Permabond 712 is a low-viscosity, water-resistant cyanoacrylate adhesive which can pass stringent 85/85 automotive ageing tests. Once cured, 712 has outstanding resistance underwater, as well as when used in hot and humid conditions. This is fairly unique amongst cyanoacrylates and the first of its kind in Permabond product range!
Key Features:- Good water and heat resistance
- Fast cure (seconds)
- High strength
- Bonds most surfaces
- Really easy to use
Permabond 712 provides strong bonds on a multitude of substrates, including metals, plastics and rubbers. Its adhesion to rubber is particularly noteworthy, considering that many underwater adhesive applications are rubber-based and that pipe seals and gaskets, as well as valve seatings (whether underwater or not) are often made of this material.
712 offers much more than just water-resistance, however. It also has excellent thermal resistance, maintaining 80% strength after 100 hours at 120°C on mild steel. It is able to withstand continuous exposure to this temperature, and can even go as high as 150°C for brief periods of time. In addition, the adhesive has great resistance to humidity and moisture, maintaining 90% of strength during 85/85 testing (85% relative humidity / 85°C) Its chemical resistance is also excellent – it will withstand exposure to oils and automotive fluids, for example.
Water-Resistant Cyanoacrylate Target Applications & Other Benefits
Permabond 712 is highly suitable for the following applications (amongst others):
- Any application needing to withstand continuous water exposure
- Rubber seals and gaskets for pipes
- Rubber seatings in valves
- Automotive interiors
- Sports equipment
- Prosthetics and disability aids
- Jewellery & embellishments
- Household appliances, such as fridges and washing machines
Other key benefits of this adhesive are its rapid, room temperature cure (typical of a cyanoacrylate), high bond strength, and ease of dispensing. It can be dispensed by hand straight out of the bottle, or alternatively can be used with automatic dispensing equipment. This in turn allows for a faster, smoother production process. The cured adhesive is clear, colourless and discreet, as well as being solvent free! It’s also worth mentioning that Permabond 712 has very competitive pricing, so can offer financial savings as well as process and production savings alongside performance benefits.
Permabond 130UV is a low-viscosity, solvent-free adhesive cures both in the presence of moisture and upon exposure to UV light, effectively offering the best of both of these technologies!
130UV forms a tack-free bond in seconds, is crystal clear once cured and leaves no fluff-attracting tacky residue or marks. Its dual-curing technology means that it achieves a full cure in shadow areas (i.e., areas not reached by normal UV light curing), as well as providing a strong bond both through transparent and opaque substrates. Adhesive blooming, often associated with cyanoacrylate adhesives, can be completely avoided by instantly UV-curing the applied adhesive.
130UV bonds well to a variety of substrates, including metals, plastics and even rubber. The moisture-curing component of the adhesive means it works well on rubber, unlike a conventional UV adhesive.
Key Product Features & Benefits:- Dual-curing: combines the benefits of a cyanoacrylate and UV adhesive
- Cures shadow areas not reached by UV light
- Bonds well to many substrates
- Non-tacky, smooth finish
- RoHS compliant
- Very fast cure
- Low hazard SDS
In addition, 130UV has a very good open time for a cyanoacrylate adhesive, allowing for accurate alignment of parts before bonding.
130UV Dual-Cure Adhesive Target Applications:- Any applications where shadow bonding areas are a concern, e.g. PCBs
- Fillet bonding
- Automotive interiors
- Electronics applications, incl. multi-substrate bonding
- Small gaps filling
- Jewellery
- Needle bonding
Permabond 130UV has great environmental resistance and is highly suitable for electronics and automotive applications, having passed 85/85 testing (85°C/85% relative humidity).
Due to Permabond 130UV’s reactivity, the product cures to a tack-free finish in seconds even with a low power UV torch. It’s also worth mentioning that Permabond 130UV has very competitive pricing, so can offer financial savings as well as process and production savings alongside performance benefits.
